Marriagequality is an Irish campaign platform for mobilisation that seeks legislative equality for gay and lesbian people in a country where the Catholic Church still has quite some influence. The government is currently preparing a bill that will introduce some rights for same sex marriages, but the majority of political parties continue to deny gays and lesbians access to the ‘holy’ institution of marriage. Which is precisely why it becomes symbolically important to demand just that – access to an institution that is ferociously safeguarded by conservative forces, not only in Ireland, but in most European countries still. De-sanctify marriage, and check out the campaign at : www.marriagequality.ie
